About

Copper Canyon is a multi-use trail system with a 3.9 mile loop which is equestrian, mountain bike, and hiker friendly. There is an adjacent jeep trail that follows a 1.9 mile segment of the historical General Crook Trail and is OHV friendly.

What You'll See

These trails wind through desert scrub and riparian communities as it comes into and out of Copper Canyon. As you move from crucifix thorn and prickly pear hilltops into the cottonwood and sycamore tree dominant canyon bottom, you may see a variety of birds such as red-tailed hawks, greater roadrunners, Gambel's quail, black-chinned hummingbirds, and more. Reptiles and amphibians such as canyon tree frogs, Woodhouse toads, gopher snakes, and rattlesnakes also call the canyon home. If you're lucky, you may even see resident ring-tailed cats, black-tailed jackrabbits, and white-nosed coati.

Getting There

The Copper Canyon Trailhead is located in Camp Verde, just 90 miles north of Phoenix and 60 miles south of Flagstaff. The trailhead is off Salt Mine Road on Forest Road 136, approximately 3 miles from I17.
