Verde River Otter Spotters
Friends of the Verde River and The River Otter Ecology Project are working together on a special project! They would like to know how river otters are doing in the beautiful Verde River watershed. Where are they present? What parts of the river attract them and why? How can we protect their future? You can help!
Otters are incredible animals that show us how healthy our rivers and lakes are. They’re tough and adaptable, but changes in water quality and the environment can harm their habitats. These playful creatures remind us how much we all rely on clean, thriving ecosystems.
By spotting otters and submitting your sightings, you can help map otter distribution and behavior to inform habitat protection strategies.
Keep your eyes and ears open when you’re near the Verde River or one of its creeks.
If you spot a river otter try to take a photo or video—from a safe distance. Be sure to note:
Where you saw the otters
When you saw them
How many you saw
What they were doing (ex: swimming, playing, hunting)
Share your findings - Input your sighting!
