About

Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site is located along Wet Beaver Creek northeast of Lake Montezuma, AZ. Formerly known as V Bar V Ranch Heritage Site, Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site provides visitors with the opportunity to see and learn about indigenous culture of the area while observing the diverse habitat and the wildlife that occupies it.

What You'll See

Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site has a lot to offer. Visitors can take guided tours to learn the cultural significance of the petroglyphs used by the Sinagua peoples. While hiking on one of the region’s only wheelchair accessible trails, visitors can observe the rich biodiversity of Wet Beaver Creek. There are a number of interpretive signs that describe the wildlife and ecosystem of the area. Visitors may even have the chance to spot the elusive coatimundi, a relative of the raccoon. Wet Beaver Creek provides important habitat to migrating songbirds as well. So bring your binoculars!

Getting There

While traveling south on I-17 from Flagstaff, take exit 298. Take a left on Forest Road 618 and continue for 2.6 miles. Turn right onto North Forest Ranger Road and continue for 0.2 miles until you reach the parking lot for Crane Petroglyph Heritage Site.

entrance requirements

Hours are from 9:30 am to 3 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Entrance gate closes at 2 pm. Red Rock Pass or America the Beautiful Pass required. Can be purchased at the kiosk in the parking lot.
